Indictments seeking jail for Demirtas, Yuksekdag and Bestas

ADANA - 5 separate indictments were drawn up by Public Prosecutor Office of Adana against Co-Heads of HDP Selahaddin Demirtas, Figen Yuksekdag and Meral Danis Bestas.

Indictments seeking jail for Demirtas, Yuksekdag and Bestas

Public Prosecutor Office of Adana has prepared 5 separate indictments, requesting a jail term of up to 5 years against Co-Heads of HDP Selahaddin Demirtas, Figen Yuksekdag and Meral Danis Bestas over the charges of ‘promoting terrorist organization’ and ‘insulting Turkish Republic, the government, judicial bodies, military and law enforcement’.

Drawn up indictments against  Co-Heads of HDP Demirtas, Yuksekdag and Bestas have been sent to Public Prosecutor of Adana.

It has determined in investigation conducted by Public Prosecutor of Adana that on 15 October 2011, BDP Hakkari deputy Selahaddin Demirtas had shouted slogans on behalf of PKK in his party’s Adana province congress.  

Imprisonment request up to 5 years for Demirtas

According to the indictment, Demirtas haven’t applied to testify, despite of notification sent to him. It was asked for Demirtas to be punished from 1 to 5 years for making propaganda for terrorist organization.

Up to 2 years imprisonment request for Yuksekdag

In the investigation conducted about Yuksekdag, it was asked to be punished with imprisonment from 6 months up to 2 years for the crime of humiliating Turkish Republic Government in the press conference her party arranged in Ugur Mumcu Square to protest the blasts happened in Ankara on the 12 October 2015.

3 criminal charges about Bestas

About the HDP Adana deputy and Co-Head Vise Meral Danis Bestas was requested from 6 months to 2 years imprisonment 3 times because of her speech in press conference on 14 October 2015 and 9 February 2016, her shares via Twitter on 2 February 2016.

Indictments need to be approved by the courts to bring an action about Demirtas, Yuksekdag and Bestas. (İLKHA)
