In the 39th UNESCO World Heritage committee meeting in Germany, Diyarbakir ramparts and Hevsel Gardens was voted as the World Cultural Heritage.

Diyarbakir’s Ramparts and Hevsel Gardens were voted as its heritage in the World Cultural Heritage list.

Diyarbakir’s Ramparts and Hevsel Gardens were both analysed in the 39th UNESCO World Heritage committee meeting. ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments & Site) prepared an 8-minute slide show on Diyarbakir ramparts and Hevsel Gardens.  26 state ambassadors expressed their views on why Diyarbakir ramparts and Hevsel Gardens should be recorded in the World Cultural Heritage list.

Along with Diyarbakir ramparts and Hevsel Gardens, Turkey now has 14 different places in the UNESCO World Heritage list. Diyarbakir ramparts are one of the oldest constructions. Hevsel Gardens are known with its history as well as its productivity and blessings on coast in Dicle.

The process began on 28th June in Bonn, Germany that was concluded tonight. From the states that applied to be in the World Cultural Heritage list, 38 applicant files were looked at in the 39th UNESCO World Heritage committee meeting.  

Diyarbakir applied with its ramparts and Hevsel Gardens. The ramparts are known as Diyarbakir’s symbol with it being 5,700 metres wide. In the final meeting Diyabakir received votes from 21 delegates and managed to be in the World Cultural Heritage list.  (ILKHA)
