ANKARA - The Director of Religious Affairs Prof. Mehmet Görmez stated that many problems arise when the same fetwas given in countries where Muslims are the majority as those are given in countries where Muslims live as minorities.

“We have to give fetwa by considering each country's living”

Speaking at the meeting of the Eurasian Islamic Council of Fetwa Parliament, the Religious Affairs Director Mehmet Görmez paid attention to the need to give fetwa according to the conditions of each country.

With the participation of the member countries of the Eurasian Islamic Council, the Fetwa Assembly was formed with the 'Eurasia Islamic Forum of the Fetwa Assembly' meeting held in the Meyra Hotel in Ankara.

With the Fetwa Assembly, the differences between the Islamic countries will be greatly reduced. With the establishment of the Fetwa Parliament, which has a very large importance for the Islamic world, joint decisions on some issues in the Islamic world can be made.

President of the Religious Affairs Department, who also spoke on the opening of the meeting with the participation of the member states of the Eurasia Islamic Council and who also chaired the Presidency of the Islamic Council of Eurasia, Dr. Mehmet Görmez pointed out the significance of the Fatwa Assembly for the Islamic world and pointed out that this Fetwa Assembly is extremely important in terms of responding to the challenges of the century and bringing about solving the emerging issues in terms of updating our historical heritage to the present day.

Referring to the fact that the Islamic Council of Eurasia, which has a history of twenty years, is the platform that brings together the most Muslims after the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Görmez said, “The Eurasian Islamic Forum is about all kinds of explanations about how important it is for religious education, religious stability, peace and welfare.”

“It is the duty of every scholar to convey the Islamic science heritage to his generation and to future generations”

Görmez stated that while the process of Islamic World going through taking into account, the Fetwa Assembly was established with the decision to benefit for Islamic world in order to prevent confusion in the Islamic world, Görmez used the following expressions:

“All the scholars who live in this age have three major duties that can be assumed by the scholars. The first task is to update the Islamic science heritage and to transfer it to its generation and future generations. To carry the legacy of the Prophet to this day is supposed to be over the scholars of this age. The scholars are giving this promise to Allah at the same time as having knowledge. The second task is to oppose all the challenges of the century against Islam; to resist by knowledge, wisdom and ingenuity. The third is the duty of the scholars to pass on the new problems that have emerged in this century through the Qur'an and Sunnah strainer and to solve according to the Qur'an and Sunnah. As all the scholars in this age, we are lacking in the way of doing these three facts.”

“People directed to wrong ways by the fetwas giving in social media”

Görmez said that they showed weakness to carry the heritage of science, fatwa and opinion, Qur'an and Sunnah to this day, says Görmez, “We have had problems against the challenges of the ages and much bigger problems have arisen. We remained weakness in order to resolve the emerging issues with the method of Islam. We became weak and then a confusion of fatwas emerged. We are all witnessing that people who are not capable of giving fetwa are pretending like a mufti with the help of social media and they are beginning to send the people to the wrong ways. We have come to the conclusion that the personal fetwas will no longer gain value. That is why it became a necessity for the scholars to come together and negotiate matters in different fields, thus the Eurasian Islamic Council decided to form the Fetwa Assembly.”

Görmez stated that Muslims have much more troubles in the countries where they live as minorities, says that “The sameness between the fetwas given in the countries where Muslims live as the dominant majority and the fetwas given in the countries where Muslims live as a minority causes many problems. However, if we accept every country as unique, and give fetwas according to the life in that country.” (Fırat Arslan- ILKHA)
