“21 thousand 664 people wait for kidney transplant”
BURSA - As of May, 21, 664 people are expecting kidney transplantation said experts remarked that about 25 thousand people are expecting organ transplantation in general, and emphasized that more efforts should be made on behalf of society consciousness.
Dr. Özcan Akan, Bursa Provincial Health Director, who has been evaluating about the organ donation stated that an effort should be made to encourage organ transplantation and that currently 21,664 people are expecting transferring of kidney, 2,200 people liver, 797 heart and 44 people lungs.
Underlining that major duties to Diyanet and press in organ transplantation, Özcan Akan said that about 25 thousand people in Turkiye are waiting for organ transfer.
First of all, Akan, who gives information about transplantation from cadaver, said, “Transplant from cadaver is the result of obtaining family approval from those who have brain death in intensive care unit. It is known that organ transplant can be done everybody who died in the society but unfortunately this is not true. If the person died in a clinic of the hospital, if not connected to respirator and brain death has not been done, organ transplantation will not be done from these people. So sometimes you cannot take anybody's organ in natural disasters such as traffic accidents or earthquakes and transplant to another like in the press news.”

Akan said that organ and tissues such as kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas, small intestine, uterus, skin, face, arm, bone and bone marrow could be donated. As of May, 21 thousand 664 people are waiting for kidney transplantation while thousand 200 people liver, 797 people heart, 44 people waiting for the transfer of the lung. (Mustafa Bikeç - ILKHA)
