ANKARA - President Erdoğan said, “I would like to say in advance that we have not found the sanctions right launched against Qatar. It is the best way for members of the Gulf Cooperation Council to resolve issues among themselves through mutual dialogue.”

“We do not find sanctions right against Qatar”

Meeting with the ambassadors in Turkiye at the iftar meal, Erdoğan said, “We want to express in advance that we do not find the sanctions right against Qatar. This incident, which is happening at a time when we need more than solidarity and cooperation at any time, it is the best way for members of the Gulf Cooperation Council to resolve issues among themselves through mutual dialogue.“

Regarding Turkiye's operations in northern Syria and Iraq, “Did the regime call you?” President Erdoğan said, “No, should the regime call us to be here?” and they say, ‘but the regime called us, we are in Syria because the regime called us.’ On the other side they say, ‘we are in Iraq because the regime has called us.’ But the regime itself is cruel already, the people are calling us, we are there because the people call us, the oppressed people are calling us, we are giving humanitarian aid.”

“We do not find the sanctions right against Qatar”

President Erdoğan also made the following statements regarding the Qatar issue on the agenda: “While the problems in our region have not been solved yet, we are confronted with new troubles. One of them is the Qatar issue. I would like to express in advance that we do not find the sanctions right that launched against Qatar. It is the most appropriate way for members of the Gulf Cooperation Council to resolve issues between themselves through mutual dialogue. We appreciate the calm and constructive attitude put forth by Qatar in this framework. Efforts to isolate Qatar, which we know to be an effective struggle, will not contribute to solving any problems. We will continue to develop our relationships with Qatar as well as all our friends who have always felt strong support in our most difficult times. We are ready to do our part on the solution of the problems of other countries with Qatar.”

“We are making every effort to resolve the crisis”

“I see it a very serious accusation to link Qatar with terror. Because I know for a long time that I am well acquainted with them in my 15 years of presidency and Prime Minister Period. I would be the first president stand in front of them if there were such thing. But I haven’t seen such claim around them. And here, there is a different game playing, but who is behind this game, we have not yet identified it.” (ILKHA)
