Adana Hope Association calls for urgent help to those in need

Adana Hope Association continues to help families in need in the month of December. The association has increased their help packages up to 350 this month and they remark that there were orphans, widows and Syrian refugee families in their list of families in need.

The association authorities underlined that the number of families that have applied to them for help has significantly increased during the winter season, specially underlying that Syrian refugees living in tents claim that they need blankets and heaters as the weather is getting colder. The association therefore calls for urgent help from beneficent people.

Abidin Serin, Adana Hope Association Executive provided some details about the help they have undertaken during December. He underlined that since the establishment of Hope Association, they have been helping people in need each month. Serin stated that the number of families in need have increased from 300 to 350 during the month of December.

The food packages contained the essential needs of; oil, sugar, tea, rice, wheat, beans, peas, lentil and pasta said Serin. In addition to these, at certain times they also added red meat, tomato paste, potatoes and onions.

Priority for orphans and widows

The association has distributed help packages to orphans, widows and the breadwinner of the house who is unable to work in particular. Syrian families have also been in the top list of those who are in need the most. Serin underlined that they have also distributed blankets, carpets, beds and heaters to these particular families.

“Syrian families urgently need blankets and heaters”

Serin underlined the increase in number of families applying for help in winter, “There are currently 4 thousand applicants who have applied to get some support from us. Majority of these families are the Syrian refugees who have left their country due to civil war and settled in Adana. There are 150 thousand Syrian families living in Adana and a vast majority of them live in squatter homes or are renting destroyed buildings trying to survive. As the weather is getting colder these families urgently need some blankets and heaters. We are trying our best to help them but unfortunately as we don’t have the required needs we are unable to help to the best standards. We urge that beneficent people urgently help us by distributing heaters and blankets to reach them to these families.”

“We should do our duty of being an Ansar to Syrian families”

Siren emphasised that the Syrians who were doing gardening and working in fields are now unable to work due to the winter season, “We should do our duty of being an Ansar (helper) to Syrian families for the will of Allah as they have migrated to our country.”

The rich and poor become a “Sibling Family”

Hope Association has “Sibling Family” projects and under this study they aim to provide cooperation and solidarity between rich and the poor says Serin. Adding that, “We call out to beneficent people. We want them to come and meet these families who are desperately in need. They can choose a family to become a ‘Sibling Family’ under our project. They can choose to help the family personally or we can act on their behalf and help these families in need each month.”

Serin remarked that Adana Hope Association in partnership with Hope Kervan Platform are helping families in need without offending them in anyway as their policy, “As an association we help these families for the sake of Allah. We are therefore against revealing their identities. Applicants are examined by the help commission and detected based on their circumstances. We then start distributing packages starting with the families who are desperately in need.”  (ILKHA)
