‘Saudi Arabia to give MANPADs to rebels in Syria’
BERLIN - Adel el-Jubeir Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia has declared that MANPADs should be given to rebels in Syria.
Talking to German Der Spiegel, Saudi Arabia Foreign Minister Adel el-Jubeir said moderate rebel groups should be provided with surface to air missiles (manpad).
“MANPADs to change the balance of the power on the ground”
Jubeir was quoted as telling “we believe these surface-to air missiles are going to change the balance of the power on the ground. Providing the rebels with these rockets would help these rebel groups to neutralize the helicopters and aircrafts that drop chemicals. Surface-to air missiles will be able to change the balance of power in Syria.
Indicating that Russian support for Assad will not save him in a long term, Jubeir said that to start a political process, Assad’s resignation is a must.
“We want a single and stable Syria where Syrians have equal rights in every sense”
Speaking about the relationships with Russians, Jubeir said: “Apart from the contradictions over the Syria issue, we have very deep relationships with Russia that we also wish to widen our relationships. Our dissidence over Syria problem is something tactical rather than a long term strategy. We dream of a single and stable Syria where Syrians have equal rights in every sense.” (ILKHA)
